You’re a talented artist and you’ve chosen to build a business around your art. How do you sustain your passion when your financial livelihood now depends on creative output? How do you make time and head-space for creating while juggling “less fun” business tasks like marketing, finances, and admin? Whether you’re just starting out or already have a thriving business, protecting your creativity is essential for your business and spirit.

Melanie Figg has been a working artist for 30 years, and has run her own creative consulting and coaching business for the past decade. As a professional certified coach, she offers a wide range of workshops and women’s writing retreats. She also works 1-1 with writers and artists to support their work lives and their creative lives—building more confidence, improving time management, and easing barriers like procrastination and perfectionism. She’s determined to help artists, especially women, flourish.

Melanie is an award-winning writer and teacher. She has received multiple grants for her creative work, from the Maryland State Arts Council, Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County, National Endowment for the Arts, and more. She is also a skilled grant writer from her “previous life” as a nonprofit development officer, where she secured and managed large programs and grant budgets for a variety of arts, education, and social service organizations.
